How it works
A prompter in three acts
In the theatre, the sufler sits hidden at the edge of the stage and whispers the lines an actor would otherwise miss. That is the whole idea.
It works out who said what
Whisper recognises the speech and the language, even when people switch mid-sentence. Voices are told apart as Speaker A, B, C, which you can rename.
It whispers the line to you
About two seconds after someone finishes a sentence, the translation appears in the menu bar and in a floating subtitle bar that stays on top of full-screen Teams.

Questions
Before the curtain goes up
Will the others know I'm using it?
sufler doesn't join the meeting or appear in it; it only listens to the audio on your own Mac. Recording or transcribing people can still be covered by workplace rules and privacy laws such as GDPR, so check what applies to you and tell participants when that's required.
Can I try it before buying?
Yes. The download is the full app with a 7-day free trial and no card needed. Buy any time during or after the trial, paste your licence key into sufler, and it carries on.
How many Macs can I use it on?
Two, for example a work Mac and a personal one. To move sufler to a new Mac, open Settings › Licence › Deactivate this Mac on the old one, then enter your key on the new one.
How fast are the subtitles?
A line usually appears about 1 to 3 seconds after the speaker pauses. sufler waits for a natural break, so it can translate whole sentences instead of fragments.
Does it work with Zoom, Google Meet or Teams in the browser?
Yes. Choose "All system audio" instead of "Microsoft Teams" and sufler subtitles whatever your Mac plays.
How does it tell speakers apart?
By voice. Each sentence gets an acoustic fingerprint that is matched against the voices heard so far in the call. Very short remarks take the previous speaker's label, and when two people talk over each other the louder one wins.
Does it need an internet connection?
Only once, to download the speech and translation models (about 4.5 GB). After that it works fully offline.
Does it run on Intel Macs?
No. Live speech recognition needs the graphics and neural hardware in Apple Silicon (M1 and newer) to keep up with a conversation.
